About the Rays
This summer, the Rockville Rays return in Division A of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL), competing with Stonegate, Tallyho, Germantown, Country Glen, and Bethesda.
Our program consists of a series of dual meets divided into two levels of competition. The advanced ‘A’ meets are limited in the number of competitors per team, while the ‘B’ meets are open to any swimmer not competing in the ‘A’ meets. We have a full season of Saturday ‘A’ meets and Wednesday night ‘B’ meets, so all of our swimmers will have an opportunity to compete in at least one meet each week. In addition, swimmers or relay teams with qualifying times or placements may be invited to swim in special meets such as the MCSL All-Star Relays and Individual All-Stars Meets and the Coaches’ Invitational Long Course Meet. Please refer to the calendar for the dates and times of swim team activities, including Time Trials, A & B meets, the A & B relay carnivals, and the A Divisional Championship.
Rays swim team practice starts Tuesday, May 30, in the indoor South Pool.
- From May 30–June 16, Rays swim team practice will be from 4pm–5:30pm (Mon–Fri).
- Starting Monday June 19, Rays swim practice will change to 5pm–6pm (10 and under) and 6pm–7pm (11 and older) on Mon, Tues, and Thurs. Friday practices will be 5pm-6pm (for all swimmers) so our Friday team parties can start at 6pm. Additional developmental practice clinics will be available on Tuesdays from 4pm-5pm for swimmers to focus on specific skills – details will be shared by the coaches. Starting June 20, all swimmers must use the outdoor entrance and outdoor shower facilities when coming to or leaving practice.
Fees and Registration
Registration is in two steps. First, complete the online team registration on this site, then register in person at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center. Present a copy of the confirmation email from your online registration (or show on your phone) to the front desk staff, along with a completed Rockville Recreation and Parks program registration form. Two fees are required to complete your registration:
- $45 (check ONLY) payable to: Rockville Rays Parents.
- $135 for Swim and Fitness Center Members or $265 for non-members for the program (payable by cash, Visa, Master Card or check payable to: City of Rockville).
Every family on the team is a member of the Rockville Rays Parents, which exists to support the swim program. This year volunteering will be required in order for your child to swim. If parents do not sign-up for at least 5 volunteering opportunities (at meets and concessions) after registration, your swimmer will not be entered in any swim meets. This includes officiating, timing, clerk of course, and other jobs listed on our sign-up. Please seriously consider becoming a Stroke & Turn Official or Starter. MCSL offers classes (see the calendar and on www.mcsl.org) and you will be able to shadow more experienced officials. The Rockville Ray Parents also staff a concession stand during several big swim meets this summer (Long Course, and All-Stars), so we need Ray parents to volunteer to sell concessions. The revenue generated from these activities helps support the Rays and keeps our registration fees lower compared to other MCSL teams.
Students who volunteer for Rays activities can receive Student Service Learning (SSL) credit. Download and complete MCPS Form 560-51 and submit it to our Team Rep.
The Rays team swim suit this year will be the Dolfin Jolt (blue). Costs are as follows: Boy’s (jammer) suit is $32, the boy’s (brief) suit is $25, and the Girl’s suit is $46. Team suits are available for purchase from Capital Sport and Swim (301-949-7366), located at 10558 Metropolitan Ave, Kensington MD 20895. Capital Sport and Swim will also provide fitting service prior to time trials at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center on June 10th from 7:30am to 8:20am, and the suits will be available for purchase on site with either cash, check or credit card. Please make sure kids remain DRY for the fitting prior entering the pool. Team suits are strongly encouraged this year when attending A and B meets.
We look forward to a great summer and to seeing swimmers on May 30 for the first swim practice and everybody on Friday, June 9 for our party and parent orientation meeting!
